Kurkure Recipe – Homemade Zero Waste Snack

Today we’re going to look into the Kurkure recipe. I know you guys might have heard it contains plastic in them and so and so. Hence many of you might have avoided eating them irrespective of your food cravings. And if you’re a regular reader of my blog posts, you may know that I hate to sacrifice my food cravings in the name of zero waste journey. I’m not sure whether it contains plastic or not but my reason for quitting the Kurkure and lays are their plastic packaging and the preservatives used in them.

So, why should we sacrifice our food cravings while saving our Earth! It’s actually not necessary. And hence I’m going to share one of my favourite Kurkure recipes here – Kurkure Masala Munch and also the tomato flavour.

If you’re a lay’s fan, go and check out the recipes of all the top 5 flavours of lays here.

  • Chat masala – 1/4 teaspoon
  • Cooked rice – 1 cup
  • Fenugreek powder – 1/4 teaspoon
  • Garlic powder – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Onion powder – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Amchur powder – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chilli powder – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Powdered sugar – 1/4 teaspoon
  • Powdered salt – 1/2 teaspoon

Worried about how to make these powders at home? Check out the recipes here.

You can find the chat masala here.

Instructions:

  1. Take the cooked rice to the blender with a little amount of water and grind them to a dough-like consistency (shouldn’t be watery) as we do for our rice vathal.
  2. Now add salt and red chilli powder to it and give it a good mix.
  3. You can just take a little amount of dough and roll it in your palms to get to the Kurkure shape. If you’re only concerned about the taste, just go for whichever shape you like.
  4. Sundry them from 2 to 3 days till they are completely dried without any moisture content in it.
  5. You can store this in the airtight container and use whenever you’re going to prepare the Kurkure.
  6. Take the dried ones to the pan and fry them in the oil only in the medium flame.
  7. Once they are roasted, transfer to a clean cotton towel to remove the excess oil.
  8. Then take them to the container, and add all the above-mentioned spices to it except salt and red chilli powder. Taste it once, if you need more salt and red chilli powder, you can add it more. And give it to a good mix to spread the spices.
