Plastic Free July is a global movement that helps millions of people like us to be part of the solution to plastic pollution. So, we can have cleaner streets and oceans!
As I always say, our small actions will definitely make a huge impact! Don’t think that your small contribution doesn’t matter. It does! Just look at this stat :
Total trash produced/person – 4.40 pounds/day
So, if you decide to take some action for our planet, you can able to prevent it from producing 1606 pounds of trash per year. Sounds cool, right? You cannot change the entire world but you can make a difference as a single human being.
And remember, as a consumer, we have the power to change the industries too.

Plastic Free July Challenge
I’m here to help you to make this plastic-free journey hassle-free by sharing 30 small actions (each per day) that can be done this July. This series will be more like a Plastic Free July Challenge.
To make this challenge more interesting, I want you to follow that one given step every single day of this month and post your experience by tagging @wastefreeculture on Instagram so I can track your progress in this journey!
Day 1 of the Plastic Free July Challenge
- Americans buy 29 billion water bottles a year.
- For every six bottles people buy, only one is recycled. That leads to a big problem given the fact that water bottles do not biodegrade, but rather photodegrade. This means that it takes at least up to 1,000 years for every single bottle to decompose, leaking pollutants into our soil and water along the way.
- As a result, U.S. landfills are overflowing with 2 million tons of discarded water bottles. And because plastics are produced with fossil fuels, not only does that make them an environmental hazard, but also an enormous waste of valuable resources. (Source)
So, always carry a reusable water bottle with you. Also, don’t use plastic bottles as they are not good for your health as well as for our environment. Instead, go for a stainless steel water bottle!
Personally, I use an insulated steel water bottle that keeps my water hot/ cold for an entire day!
Are you drinking the water from your reusable bottle? If the answer is NO, let’s make the switch today!
Lemme know in the comments: what’s stopping you to bring your own reusable water bottle?
